Whats the difference between asthma and bronchitis?

Question by The real brownies ♥ ™: Whats the difference between asthma and bronchitis?
I have asthma, but lately I have experience burning of the chest, chills, chest pains, shortness of breath and a hack. I am use to wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath. I went to the doctor and she gave me an asthma treatment and this medicine called predisnone. It helped a little, but now my chest is burning. I also had a temperature of 99. Are asthma and bronchitis related?

Bronchitis indicates an infection. Go back to the doctor and report the chills and fever. You may need antibiotics.

You will have a reason for being out of puff, ie. exercise. An asthma attack is caused by the illness and can come on at any time

Is it possible to have asthma and not have asthma attacks?

Question by youdontknowme: Is it possible to have asthma and not have asthma attacks?
I think I might have a minor case of asthma because my chest hurts badly when I run and for the rest of that day. I’ve never had an asthma attack, so is it at all possible to have asthma?

I have an appointment to see a doctor but I wanted to know if anyone knew beforehand.

Q&A: Asthma: What are some ways to control a cough for a child with asthma?

Question by hearts33: Asthma: What are some ways to control a cough for a child with asthma?
My niece is staying with us and has asthma and has started coughing. It was a last minute decision and she didn’t have her inhaler with her. She’s sleeping and just starting to cough, but I don’t want to let that go because it could throw her into an attack.

Best answer:

Answer by Kunisaki S
That’s a bit difficult, especially since she usually uses an inhaler. I suppose you don’t know what causes the attacks? If you do, keep her away from that. And keep her warm, cold air may induce asthma attacks. Hope that helps!

It truly depends on your body and your symptoms. Mine act up more in a dry heat in the summer verses a humid heat.

I am not surprised that your doctor is a bit unsure what to do now, as he has already prescribed most of the safer alternatives [safer in terms of pharmaceuticals] that he can. His only other choices are a long-acting beta-2 agonist (LABA) or a cortocosteroid inhaler, both of which have worse side effects [and if I'm not mistaken the FDA has put out a warning about LABAs].

You can tell your doctor that you are willing to try these if you really want to take the risk in order to keep running and/or you can try the Buteyko breathing method, which is natural and safe but must be used in conjunction with the meds that you are already on. Learn about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buteyko_method.

I wish you luck — I am also asthmatic and I know how annoying asthma attacks are when they stop you from doing the things you want to do.

I had an asthma attack at swim practice and I’m afraid to go back. Should I go or wait until I start meds?

Question by missitalia: I had an asthma attack at swim practice and I’m afraid to go back. Should I go or wait until I start meds?
I just found out that I had asthma, and this was my first swim practice for the season. I haven’t started medication yet (but will when my prescription comes in) should i swim with non-medicated asthma?

Best answer:

Answer by Evan M.
You can swim but don’t push yourself too far or hard bc u will have an asthma attack and without a rescue inhaler it could end bad. I’m sure someone on ur team has an inhaler so u may ask around and see if u could borrow one if u have an attack.

How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?

Question by donna belle p: How to treat asthma and how to prevent allrgic asthma attacks?
I have always been sensitive to air pollution, smoke, dust, pollen and other things that trigger asthma. How can I help myselfwith asthma attacks?

Best answer:

Answer by julie w
I was going to suggest you stay away from things you are allergic to………….but?? Kinda hard for you being surrounded by them all. An air purifier would be a good thing to have in your home.
Have you seen a doctor? I’m allergic to dogs, cats etc and I carry an Inhaler, Ventolin I think.
It clears my lungs very quickly. If you haven’t already got one I suggest you do. I carry mine with me at all times. You just never know.
All the best
Julie W
